Skoda first unveiled the Excellent facelift at Auto Expo 2020 and released the premium sedan following a pause in its original production plans. The Excellent facelift comes in two variations: Sportline and Laurin & Klement.
Skoda also finally scrapped the Superb’s diesel engine and only the 1.8-liter TSI petrol engine has now been replaced with a 2.0-liter BS6-compliant TSI engine. With all the power and torque finding its way to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or direct-shift gearbox (dual-clutch automatic), it is tuned to put out 190PS and 320Nm. Unlike its predecessor, there is no manual transmission available on the Superb’s petrol engine. The Excellent facelift returns a good fuel-efficiency of 15.10kmpl, according to Skoda.
There are also slight modifications to the Superb ‘s exterior. The headlamp units now feature matrix LED lights and cornering LED fog lamps, while the grill and bumpers have been tweaked, and the updated tail lamps are now connected to a chrome strip. Skoda has upped the style by selling the two models with separate 17-inch alloy wheel design. The model Sportline is available in three colors: Moon White, Race Blue and Steel Green, while the model Laurin & Klement is available in five colours: Lava Gray, Fairy Purple, Magnetic Brown, Company Green and Moon White. The Laurin & Klement model gets a beige interior on the inside while the Sportline variant gets a generously draped all-black racier interior in Alcantara.
The luxury sedan is also seeing updates to features. Aside from the improvements in the lighting section, Skoda also provides onboard connected car software. Then there’s the updated infotainment system and the new ambient lighting that adds a bit of elegance to a luxury cabin already. The facelifted Superb even gets a 360-degree monitor that will make it far simpler to park this sedan in tight space while VW’s Interactive Cockpit feature is already integrated in the instrument cluster.
What this implies is that the whole instrument cluster is fully adjustable and mechanical. Besides these changes, the new Superb houses other standard features such as dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, electric front seats, and rear sun blinds. Eight airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC (electronic stability control), and front- and rear parking sensors help to take care of protection.
