The new Maruti Celerio will be a total improvement in the design and not a mere facelift, replacing the first-gen car around since 2014. The second-gen car will be featuring fresh styling and will ride on the same platform ‘Heartect’ as the current-gen Wagon R.
Sources tell us that the new Celerio will also expand in size, with a longer wheelbase and a wider cabin than the outgoing model. Although the test mules seen in the photos are heavily shielded, they do give us a glimpse of the heightened dimensions of the vehicle.
The new Celerio will also get a fresh layout of the cabin just like the exterior. Details are scarce as of now, but it’s fair to say that the model will share several parts with other Maruti Suzuki vehicles, and features like the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system on higher variants will come along.
Although the outgoing car has been sold for most of its life with a single, 1.0-liter petrol engine, the new Celerio is expected to come with two engine options, as does the Maruti Wagon R. The more powerful 1.2-liter K-series petrol would definitely be in addition to the 1.0-liter petrol. Choices for the gearbox would potentially include a five-speed manual and an AMT automatic.
