Tata Tiago Turbo- Petrol

In January 2020, Tata launched the Tiago facelift and made it a petrol-only offering by discontinuing the 1.05-liter diesel engine. The carmaker also axed the hatchback JTP model, which featured a June 2020 turbo petrol engine. New Coimbatore spy photos, however, say Tata is keen to re-introduce a turbo-petrol powertrain in its smallest bid.

The Tiago JTP was part of JT Special Vehicles (JTSV) as a result of Tata’s 50:50 joint venture with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotive. It was offered with a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine from the Nexon, which was slightly detuned to produce 114PS and 150Nm. Tata had given a 5-speed manual gearbox to the Tiago JTP. It is possible that the new Tiago turbo-petrol will feature the same 1.2-liter petrol engine (102PS/140Nm) that the Altroz Turbo would deliver. It is basically the petrol engine of the Nexon, though it is in a state of disarray.

Tata offers the petrol-only Tiago with a naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter engine which produces 86PS and 113Nm. Built with either a manual 5-speed transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The Tiago would become the only compact hatchback to produce more than 100PS of power if launched with the turbocharged petrol package. The Wagon R and Ignis will come closest to the Tiago turbo-petrol with a power output of 83PS with their 1.2 liter petrol engines.

Going along with the spy shots, the Tiago turbo-petrol would possibly feature the same design as the standard model. The Tiago JTP came with a retuned suspension system and reduced ride height as per technical improvements. However, as regards the equipment list, it could have the same features as the standard version which includes a rear parking camera, 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and defogger rear wiper. Since there are no interior shots, we ‘re going to have to wait and see what improvements Tata is making to the turbocharged hatchback cabin.
