The Kia Carnival premium MPV’s fourth generation was first unveiled in June, followed by the reveal of the interior soon after. Now we’ve got a complete look at the new Korean Carnival being on sale. It is expected to be released in the coming months in other global markets although its arrival in India is likely by 2022.
With sharper character angles, streamlined profile, aggressive front-end design and a large presence at the rear, Kia has offered the new Carnival a more luxurious look than ever before. It also has tail lamps attached to the light bar spanning its width. The stylised C-pillar is a compliment to the current Carnival’s minimalist style. This also gets skid plates at the front and rear for a stiffer appeal than its SUV siblings.
Also the new-gen Carnival gets a new-gen cabin with a panoramic display that integrates the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment touchscreen system. Both the displays are 12.3-inch. The infotainment system comes with connected car technology, connectivity with Android wireless Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The MPV also gets their long-awaited premium dashboard and a new screen for climate control. The traditional drive-select lever for the shift-by-wire transmission was replaced by a new rotary dial. It also sees the addition of a rear passenger view and talk feature allowing front occupants to use a small camera linked to the central display to check rear occupants. This removes the need for front occupants to turn back their heads from the road, as is often the case when traveling in the back seat with children.
Kia will continue to sell 7-, 8- and 11-seater models to the Carnival with a option of three or four rows of seats, depending on the market. Kia will also offer it based on the official images, with second-row seats that can face backwards and a middle seat that can also be folded up.
The regular 7-seat configuration will be provided in the middle row with VIP seats which have folding footrests and can be very reclining. The Carnival continues to get powered entrance sliding doors and a powered tailgate as well. In terms of storage, in the three-row variant, it has a capacity of 2,905 liters, with the rear seats down. The Carnival also provides a luggage capacity of 627 litres, if all three rows are filled. For easier loading the lift-over height is 26 mm lower than before.
