India-spec MG ZS EV to be revealed on December 5

MG launched the ZS EV electric SUV earlier this year in select international markets including China and the UK. Now, on December 5, the India-spec version of the ZS EV is scheduled to be released with the launch expected in January 2020. The ZS EV’s global configuration is powered by a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery powered by an electric motor generating 150PS of power and 350Nm of torque. It is an electric powertrain, so it has no conventional gears, making it user-friendly. Under ARAI testing conditions, the battery will likely offer more than 400 km of range on a single charge.

MG states that a 50kW DC fast charger will charge the battery from 0 to 80 percent in 40 minutes. For a full charge, a home box charger will take around 6 hours or more. Like the Hyundai Kona electric SUV, if an EV charging station is not available, the ZS EV will also have the option of using a standard three-pin plug for emergency charging. As a feature-laden offer, MG is expected to offer the ZS EV in India. It is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in its global spec, a panoramic sunroof, and a climate control air purifier. The boot is also spacious with a 448-liter capacity.

In India, the locally assembled ZS EV is expected to be priced around the Rs 20-lakh mark. At launch, its only direct rival will be the Hyundai Kona Electric, which has a starting price of Rs 23.7 lakh. The Tata Nexon EV will also be a sub-4 m electric SUV but its max range is expected to be limited to 300 km.
