New-gen Maruti Celerio Spied

The Maruti Celerio is about to get a generational update shortly, as indicated by latest spy images. Now we’ve got our hands on some more outer surveillance shots and a first look inside the second-gen Celerio.

Since the new Celerio is likely to be based on the same Heartect platform as the Wagon R, it appears to have grown dimension-wise, including a longer wheelbase, resulting in a spacious cabin. Given the lack of wheel caps, rear wiper, and steering-mounted audio controls, the spy model tends to be a base-spec LXi version. Within, much of the dashboard is sealed up but you can see two cup holders, non-adjustable rear headrests, a 12V charging port, and centrally-mounted front power window controls.

The cluster of instruments shows similarity to the new model. We also expect the new Celerio to be offered with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with Maruti’s latest 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system as offered from the Alto onwards, with central AC vents now flanking the centre.

It is anticipated that the second-gen Celerio will be powered by the same powertrains as the current-gen model: a 1.0-liter (68PS/90Nm) petrol engine with either a 5-speed MT or a 5-speed AMT. It is anticipated that Maruti will continue selling this engine in the new Celerio with a CNG kit. A 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS/113Nm) that gets the same gearbox options as the smaller engine, may also be sold.
