Maruti Suzuki discontinued diesel Ciaz in India

In India, Maruti Suzuki discreetly discontinued the Ciaz diesel-powered models with immediate effect. Sedan diesel variants are no longer listed on the official website of the company.

The move to stop the diesel-powered Maruti Ciaz is a part of the company’s plans to phase out all diesel engines by April 2020, when the BS6 emission standards come into force. Maruti Suzuki may also be able to bring back the 1.5-liter BS6 diesel engine if it is required.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz diesel variants were powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine which produced torque of 94bhp and 225Nm. This engine was combined with a manual six-speed transmission.

The Maruti Ciaz powertrain options will now be limited to a 1,5-liter BS6-compliant petrol engine with SHVS mild-hybrid technology that produces torque of 103bhp and 138Nm. This engine comes with a five-speed manual transmission and an automatic four-speed transmission.
