The Jeep Compass has received, in its international specification, a mild update for 2020. It has no design, exterior or interior changes except for new alloys and paint options. As well, the 2020 Compass is getting a new turbo-petrol engine.
The new 1.3 liter petrol engine is available in two tuning states: 130PS and 150PS, while the torque at 270Nm remains the same. The choice of a six-speed manual and 6-speed dual clutch automatic will be offered. Jeep currently offers the India-spec Compass with a 1.4-liter BS6 turbo-petrol engine producing 163PS and 250Nm with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT option. In India, the diesel option is powered by a 2.0-liter engine that makes 173PS and 350Nm while being mated to a 6-speed MT, with the option of a 9-speed AT.
Visual updates for the new Compass to be produced at the brand’s Melfi, Italy, plant are limited to new trim-specific wheel designs and five new colours. The new color options are tri-coat Ivory, Colorado Red, Blue Italia, Blue Shade and metallic Techno Green.
Jeep claims that, with retuned handling and suspension, the new Compass will provide a better driving experience too. With further connected car technologies, the international-spec Compass will display the current set of Uconnect features. It continues to be sold with the 7.0-inch and 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment systems, whilst the Uconnect features are split into separate bundles for various functions such as My Assistant (car telematics & jeep support), My Remote (remote functions not including engine start) and My Navigation (allows users to configure destination from telephone to sat nav on board).
The main change for the 2020 Compass is the latest hybrid plug-in models that are yet to be released and described. These 4×4 models of the Compass will feature an electric motor equipped with a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine to drive all four wheels and will be available in two tuning states-190PS and 240PS.
Additional features such as ventilated front seats, alpine audio system and a powered front passenger seat are available on the US-spec 2020 model. In India, the new Jeep Compass also has amenities and comforts such as a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, climate control, leather upholstery and 6 airbags.
